EPS is pleased to announce the release of our new report concerning the Economic Impacts of the San Diego Unified Port District in 2017. The Port of San Diego is a critical economic engine for the San Diego region, generating thousands of jobs and significant local economic activity. EPS found that the Port’s overall economic impact was $9.4 billion in 2017, an increase of about 13 percent over 2015. Including multiplier effects, an estimated 70,000 jobs in San Diego County (roughly one in 30) are attributable to economic activity on the Port lands. About 44,000 of those jobs are located on Port-owned waterfront sites and include ship- and boat- building and repair, cargo handling, tourism, and hospitality jobs.
