Affordable Housing

"Affordable housing" is housing that is affordable to targeted income groups who cannot afford market-rate ownership or rental housing. Affordable housing has historically been provided through federal, state, and local programs that offer subsidies to qualifying low-income households. While there is a persistent need for housing for these indigent individuals and poor families, households with above moderate incomes are finding it increasingly difficult to afford market rate housing.
